King William, Virginia – Commercial-Scale Demonstration Plant and Testing Laboratory
On June 3, 2015, TMS completed construction of its first demonstration processing plant in King William, Virginia. The Virginia Plant is strategically situated next to a large industrial clay mine and in close proximity to several target customers operating in the biomass, pulp & paper, biosolids disposal, and energy generation industries.
The Virginia Plant is composed of three fixed structures on a 5-acre parcel of land in the Fontaine Industrial Park:
- a processing plant;
- an analytical laboratory and R&D center; and
- a testing material storage yard.
The Processing Plant occupies a 33’ x 32’ footprint and stands five floors tall at a total height of 52’. Housed within the plant are several Gen 3.0 WAVEdri® microwave reactors connected by waveguides to a series of 0.915 GHz microwave transmitters. A customized truss framework holds the processing chambers in place. This truss system is designed for selective detachment of individual processing chambers for maintenance without disturbing neighbouring assemblies. Thanks to this system, the TMS technology achieves a high degree of modularity.
The covered material storage area at the Virginia Plant occupies a 30’ by 30’ footprint, and at full capacity can hold approximately 50 tons of in-feed material (biomass, clay, coal, etc.).
The analytical laboratory has a footprint of 75’ by 25’. Inside the laboratory there is a 75KW static batch microwave oven for initial analysis of materials before continuous treatment, as well as a proprietary TMS 125KW transmitter. The laboratory features a LECO AC6000 semi-automatic calorimeter and a TGA 701 thermogravimetric analyzer for measuring specifications of materials before and after processing.
Shanghai, China – Coal Processing Facility
Inside Songjiang Industrial Park located in Shanghai, China, TMS’ joint venture partner operates an 118,000 square foot R&D complex dedicated to advancing TMS’ research into microwave upgrading of low-sulphur sub-bituminous and lignite coals across Asia. The complex, which was completed at an estimated cost of USD $19 million, includes:
- A research and development facility featuring a static microwave system, dedicated transformer, coal storage area, and analytical laboratory; and
- A promotional showroom featuring scale models of the Company’s demonstration plant in King William, Virginia as well as a several conference rooms for sharing data with potential customers.
The complex is designed to accommodate a full-scale Gen 3.0 WAVEdri® processing facility, and is located in close proximity to several coal-fired utilities and coal transportation infrastructure.
Ahmedabad, India – Corporate Office
In 2015, TMS executed a joint venture with a SOHL, an affiliate of Cadila Pharmaceuticals. Cadila is presently the largest private pharmaceutical company in India, and its Chairman, Dr. Rajiv Modi, recently joined TMS as a member of its Board of Directors. TMS is in the process of opening a corporate office in Ahmedabad.
